California Privacy Notice

Start.io (“Start.io,” “our,” “us,” or “we”) is committed to complying with applicable laws, including the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CCPA).  This Notice explains how we collect, use, and disclose Personal Information and describes rights you may have relating to your Personal Information under applicable state law. This Notice should be read in conjunction with our Privacy Policy, available at: https://www.start.io/policy/privacy-policy-site/.

Collection of Personal Information

We may collect the Personal Information categories listed in the table below.

Personal Information does not include: publicly available information lawfully made available from government records, deidentified or aggregated consumer information, or information excluded from applicable law.

Business Purpose for Collecting Personal Information

We will use the Personal Information we collect to serve targeted and personalized advertisements to you based.  We will also use the Personal Information we collect or otherwise obtain to:

  • improve the Start.io solution;
  • develop new services;
  • update or upgrade existing services;
  • operate, maintain, protect, and manage the Start.io solution;
  • audit and track usage statistics and traffic flow;
  • detect fraud in connection with the Start.io solution;
  • enforce our Privacy Policies and Terms of Use;
  • prevent unlawful activities;
  • comply with applicable laws.

We will not collect additional categories of Personal Information or use the Personal Information we collect for material different, unrelated, or incompatible purposes without providing you with notice.

Retention

We only maintain your Personal Information for as long as reasonably needed for the Business Purpose described above.

Your Rights

Depending on your state of residence, you may have certain rights.  Please note that the below rights are not absolute, and we may be entitled to refuse requests, wholly or in part, where exceptions under applicable law apply.

Right to Access

You may have the right to access Personal Information that we may collect or retain about you.  If requested, we shall provide you with a copy of your Personal Information which we collected as permitted by the applicable law.

You also have the right to receive your Personal Information in a structured and commonly used format so that it can be transferred to another entity (“data portability”).

Right to Know

You may have the right to request that we disclose the following about your Personal Information, as defined by applicable law:

  • The specific Personal Information we have collected;
  • The categories of Personal Information we have collected;
  • The categories of sources from which we have collected your Personal Information;
  • The business purpose(s) for collecting or sharing your Personal Information;
  • The categories of Personal Information we disclosed for business purposes; and
  • The categories of third parties to whom we disclosed your Personal Information.

Right to Opt-Out/Do Not Sell My Personal Information

You may have the right to opt-out of sharing your Personal Information with third parties for some purposes, including sharing that may be defined as a sale under applicable laws.  You can opt-out of this sharing by clicking: https://www.start.io/do-not-sell-or-sharemy-personal-information/.

To opt out, you will need to provide your Advertising ID.  To find your Advertising ID:

  • On an Android Device: Google’s mobile ad ID is known as the AAID, short for Android advertising ID. To find your device’s AAID, open the Settings app on your Android device and click on Ads. Your AAID is listed at the bottom of the screen.
  • On an iOS Device: Apple’s mobile ad ID is known as the IDFA, short for ID for advertisers. The IDFA on an iOS device is hidden by default. It can be accessed using a third-party app. There are several free apps available on the App Store that allow you to know your device’s IDFA, such as “Get My IDFA” or “IDFA-Find My IDFA.”

In addition to the above, you may limit the disclosure of certain data by your mobile device to us and our Advertisers, Business Partners and Data Partners by adjusting the settings on your mobile device.

  • On an iOS Devices, go to “Settings” from your Device’s home screen; scroll down to “Privacy”; select “Advertising”; and turn on “Limit Ad Tracking.”
  • On an Android Devices, go to “Google Settings” on your Device; select “Ads”; and check the box labeled “Opt-Out of Interest-Based Ads.”

You also may have a right to opt-out of the use of curtained automated decision-making technology. 

Do Not Share or Disclose My Sensitive Personal Information

You have the right to limit how we use and disclose Sensitive Personal Information to purposes specifically permitted under the CCPA.  We do not collect or obtain any Sensitive Personal Information.

Right to Deletion

In certain circumstances, you may have the right to request that we delete any of your Personal Information that we collected from you and retained, subject to certain exceptions. Once we receive and confirm your verifiable consumer request (instructions and description below), we will delete, and, as applicable, direct our service providers to delete, your Personal Information from our records, unless an exception applies.

We may deny your request to delete your Personal Information if retaining the information is necessary for us or our service providers, subject to certain exemptions.

Right to Correct/Right to Rectification

In certain circumstances, you may have the right to request correction of any inaccurate Personal Information.  Upon verifying the validity of a valid consumer correction request, we will use commercially reasonable efforts to correct your Personal Information as directed, taking into account the nature of the Personal Information and the purposes of maintaining your Personal Information.

“Shine the Light Law”

California’s “Shine the Light” law (Civil Code Section § 1798.83) permits California residents to request certain information regarding our disclosure of personal information to third parties for their direct marketing purposes. To make such a request, please send an email to privacy@start.io.

Right to Non-Discrimination

We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of your rights under applicable law.

How to Exercise Your Rights

To exercise your rights, please email privacy@start.io or click the appropriate link above. 

To fulfill your request to access, delete, or correct, we may need to verify your identity.

In some cases, you may designate an authorized agent to make a request on your behalf. Your agent will be required to provide written proof of their authorization and, in some cases, we may also ask you to directly verify your identity or confirm to us that you provided the agent permission to submit the request on your behalf.

We work to fulfill requests within the time frames provided by the CCPA. In general, we will confirm receipt of your request to exercise your rights within ten (10) business days.  We will provide a substantive response within forty-five (45) calendar days or notify you that we need an additional forty-five (45) calendar days.
